Adam* initially lost money after falling victim to an online scam. Some time later, he was contacted by an individual who claimed to be a recovery specialist. This person already knew specific details about his original loss, which made it seem credible. Adam was informed that his funds had been “flagged for release” and that recovery could begin once he paid a processing fee. The specialist claimed to be associated with a “Blockchain Authority” and used an email address that closely resembled the name of a legitimate organisation. Adam was never provided with a clear scope of work, formal documentation, or a structured recovery process. There was also no verifiable involvement from banks, trading platforms, or recognised authorities.

It eventually became clear that Adam was part of a recovery scam designed to exploit his original loss.
